   Class of the week this week at assembly! Well deserved Room 11!

Colonial Life in New Zealand

Today we were introduced to our new topic - Colonial Life in New Zealand. The children had no idea what the topic was and were all a little confused as to why Miss Graham was dressed like that, why was she being so strict, and why were their desks in rows??

By the looks of the kids' faces - I don't think they would like being at school 100 years ago!!

Redwood School Song

After watching "Feel Inside" by Flight of the Conchords, over and over again, we decided to make our own song about Redwood School... It was lots of fun!!!

Welcome back to Term 3!

I cannot believe it is Term 3 already!! This year is flying by! 
We have lots of cool things happening this term such as the OLYMPICS, UKELELE, GYM FUN and LIFE EDUCATION. We are also getting a student teacher from Week 3 to Week 5 so we have lots to look forward to! 
Look out for the new 'Explore at Home' tab that will be updated every so often with awesome links that you can do at home. 
It is great to see everyone again and I think this term is going to be EVEN BETTER than the previous (if possible!)

Topic - Keeping a Taonga Safe

For our TOPIC we created our very own special boxes to keep a treasure we have safe. By golly we got good at 

FOLDING, CUTTING, GLUEING and many other skills needed to create our very own box!

Our box wasn’t built in one day though..

The first box we tried didn’t have a lid to keep our treasure safe..

The second box wasn’t strong enough to hold our treasure...

The third box was a funny shape...

The fourth and fifth boxes seemed pretty good.. but we wanted to choose the decorations and colours we wanted!! 

SO then... we spent two days making and decorating our boxes (not full days of course!!) and here are our awesome results...

Book Week

Reading is out of this world!! Book week was lots of fun. We were lucky enough to have a show from Storylines and we dressed up on the Friday as stars!

Multiplication

Today we started our Multiplication and Division topic in maths.
Miss Graham likes to call it Mult/Div!


We learnt many words we can use instead of multiplication.

Three children in the Room 11 brought in the same amount of YUMMY stickers to put on our sheet. They all brought 2. 

3 x 2 = 6

OR

2 + 2 + 2 = 6

We learnt how easy the 0 x tables and the 1 x tables were!!! We also figured out that the 2 x tables were just doubles - we know them!!

Lucky Us!!

Lucky us!! We had a special visitor today!! It was....

THE RUGBY WORLD CUP!!!

...and a Hurricanes player - Reggie Goodes!

We were so lucky that we were one of four schools in Wellington that had the chance to have the RWC visit our school!

Noah and Dana telling us about the RWC and how important it is to NZ.

We were all very excited about the things they were saying!

But we sat up beautifully when we heard there were chances to win prizes...

Reggie brings in the RWC Trophy!! (Notice the gloves!)

We had the chance to ask him any questions we liked. 

The lucky children who won prizes.

Grace was lucky to get to hold the trophy (with gloves of course!)

Today we were lucky enough to go to the hall to have Jane Lloyd teach us some drawing skills! We listened carefully to Jane to follow her instructions, step by step.

Once we had completed our outline we were ready to shade in some of the shadows we saw.
We had to practice first!

Our New Topic!

 Today we started our new topic - Fizzing and Foaming! 


We are all very excited about having Science as our Topic and have already had a 'taste' for things!
We had to taste all sorts of foods and here are some words we used to describe them..


Sour Delicious Yuck Yum Hot/Spicy Cold Salty Disgusting Watery Juicy Fruity Soft Hard Sweet Bitter Fizzy


We then found out what some were...

.... and more!!! This is giving us a 'taste' of some words we may use in our Topic..
